The Nelson Hospitality Awards 2010 A large amount of positive feedback was received on the dinner and awards presentation evening from those of you who were able to attend. As part of the feedback we will review all aspects of the awards process and the dinner, if you have any comments don’t hesitate to pass them on.
A particular well done should go out to all the young chefs who attended the Up and Coming Chef competition on Sunday 16 May at NMIT. The judges were very impressed. First place went to Jasper Broad-Koff of Hopgoods, joint second place went to Jayden Clements of Boutereys and Lana Edwards of Bardelicious, fourth place went to Leila Byrd of The Tides, Trailways Hotel. We will look to send representation from Nelson to young Chef Competitions over the year.
A huge thank you to Clare Davies from the Grand Mercure Nelson Monaco, Matt and Tania Bouterey, John Wheeler and Harry Morris who all gave up lots of time and energy. Without them – this award would not have happened.

FIFA Soccer World Cup A small number of Nelson City establishments are progressing with an application to open during the FIFA Soccer World Cup games which fall outside of the normal licensing hours of 7am – 3am. In Nelson resource consent prevents trading outside of these hours so not only will the licensees need to create an event to obtain a Special Licence – they have also had to progress with a resource consent application.
Good luck to 623 In the City, 623 on the Rocks, The Royal, Little Rock & Ocean Lodge with this application. I think we are almost there!
Please note these restrictions are only applicable to Nelson City Council – not Tasman District.
