Rotorua Citizens Club Compliance
The Rotorua Citizens Club has again featured in the news. Rotorua’s Daily Post published a front-page article advising that the Rotorua DLA is working with the Police on an application to the LLA to cancel or suspend the Club’s liquor licence. This follows a previous application in October 2009 which saw the Club’s licence suspended for a period of four days.

Gaming Multi-Venue Self-Exclusion
A meeting was held in Rotorua on Thursday 20 May to discuss how to best administer a multi-venue self exclusion order. The meeting involved HANZ Regional Manager, Alan Sciascia, city licensees, DLA, Police, Health, DIA and the Problem Gambling Foundation (PGF). At the meeting it was decided by all present to work towards an efficient way to co-ordinate how a person who wished to could be excluded from gambling multiple venues. The PGF will be co-ordinating this issue.

The Katrina Gordon Trade Show
The Katrina Gordon Tradeshow in Rotorua was well attended by the industry on Tuesday 18 May. One fun segment saw Branch President Reg Hennessy competing in a celebrity chef cook off who competed against Nigel Anderson, Restaurant Manager from The Suncourt (Taupo). Many of you will recall Nigel from Master Chef where he performed exceptionally well and made it through to the top five.

In Rotorua, Reg and Nigel had to operate under the vocal guidance from locally renowned chefs to create a specific dish within a set time frame. It was a very close contest which saw Reg come out a winner. Congratulations to both contestants!

Town Planning
The Tauranga City Council is working in with Priority One, an independent body who has been brought in to work with businesses in future planning for the city. Priority One has met with Strand licensees in an attempt to fix some apparent problems with the pedestrian walkway. The Council recently met and agreed to allow De Beir Haus and Coyote delay the moving of the walkway until 10.00pm (from the current 4.00pm).

Priority One, Licensees and HANZ Regional Manager, Alan Sciascia will continue to work with Council on other issues impacting on the hospitality industry.

Taupo Branch

Alcohol Accord Formed
A meeting was held in Taupo on Monday 10 May at which all CBD licensees agreed to participate in an Accord with DLA, Police and Health officials. The intention of the Accord is to have a unified approach to the safe and responsible promotion and sale of liquor. These Accord groups work very well in other centres and help to achieve a good working relationship between licensees and the regulatory authorities.
