Wellington Branch AGM 2010
The Wellington Branch AGM will be held on Monday 2 August at the Long Room, Basin Reserve in Wellington.

Drinks and the AGM will begin from 5.30pm and will be addressed by the HANZ CEO, Bruce Robertson as guest speaker, followed by dinner at 7.00pm with Fran Wilde from the Wellington Regional Council as the dinner guest speaker. After dinner you are invited to join us for the 2010 Wellington Majoral Candidates Address.

The nomination forms for the Executive positions of the Wellington Branch have been emailed to Wellington branch members. Proxy forms are available on request from your HANZ Regional Manager, Tracy Scott.

Stella Ball at Four Kings - Saturday 14 August 2010
Four Kings will be hosting the second annual Stella Artois Ball on behalf of the Skylight Trust.

Skylight are a fantastic bunch of people who offer support to children and familys who are facing change, loss trauma and grief. The inaugural event last year raised over $10,000 for Skylight and this year Four Kings aim to double that amount!

Beer & Chefs Competition 2010 - Beervana
Get your Restaurant, Cafe or Pub involved in Beervana!

Match a dish with a craft beer and be in the draw to WIN a prize package for two people - flights to Melbourne, accommodation for 2 nights at Amora Riverwalk, Melbourne (the Duxton’s sister hotel). It can be as simple as taking an existing dish from your menu and matching it to a Craft/Premium Beer on your list.

Table talkers will be produced to highlight Beervana and BrewNZ which will go into your establishment in July/ August.

Dish Magazine and Paul Mercurio will judge the best match and that restaurant/cafe/pub will WIN the prize that will be announced at the BrewNZ Beer Awards on Thursday 26 August 2010 at the Duxton Hotel Ballroom in Wellington.

Rick Stein at Hippopotamus
Dine out on a five course dinner with wine in the company of Rick Stein at Hippopotamus on Friday 6 August at 7.00pm.

Rick Stein's passion for seafood set course for Rick to present his first TV cookery series 'Taste of the Seas' in 1995 and since then Rick has filmed and presented eight more cookery series! A magnificant chef in his own right and with his ex-wife Jill, he has four restaurants, a delicatessen, a patisserie, a seafood cookery school and forty hotel bedrooms in the small fishing port of Padstow on the north coast of Cornwall, which has developed over the past 34 years.

Cost:
$695.00 per person for the five course dinner; or
$1,500 for two persons for the five course dinner with wine, accommodation in a Premier or Twin studio and valet parking.

Wellington Capital Awards Winners
Congratulations to Leonardo Bresolin for winning the HSI Outstanding FOH Manager/Maitre d’ Award and his team at Scopa Caffe Cucina who won the Huhtamaki Outstanding Cafe Award.

Congratulations to Jonny McKenzie from the Hawthorn Lounge for winning the Nicolas Feuillatte Champagne Best Ambience and Style Award along with his bar Hooch for winning the Bean Global Spirits Award for Best Bar Team.

Wellington Region Culinary Fare
HANZ Wellington Branch along with Taranaki, Wanganui, Palmerston North and Hawkes Bay Branches sponsored the Magic Bed Making Class. This drew a huge noisy crowd and Scott Necklen National Operations Manager helped judged the event. This event is a real crowd pleaser and gave us some good exposure.


Hospitality Rugby World Cup Forum
HANZ have joined with RANZ in Wellington, along with Wellington Tourism, Police, Health and Council to form a Hospitality Focus Group. The main objective of this group is to be able gather information and network together leading up to RWC. To date proposals have been made to organise a Civic Pride Campaign, Less Red Tape Project and writing a Charter for our Industry. The Branch thanks our members Dan McGrath, Russell Scott, Tim Ward, Jason Deane and Gary Clarke for their time and contribution to this group.

LCQ/Duty Manager Course
The LCQ Course covers the two unit standards needed for the LCQ certificate
Cost - $200 incl GST and LCQ Fee (HANZ Members - $180 incl)

Food Hygiene Course
Covers basic food hygiene for unit 167
Cost - $130 incl GST

Advanced Food Hygiene (Unit 168)
Advanced Food Hygiene is completed by Distance Learning, where you complete the assessment in your own time and at your own pace.
Cost - $100 incl GST

Chef of the Capital 2010
The Chef of the Capital was won at the Wellington Culinary Fare by WelTec Culinary Arts Lecturer, Ray Morrell. WelTec is considered a major contributor to the industry and as a member, Branch President, Adam Cunningham presented Ray with a gift of Southern Hospitality vouchers on behalf of the Wellington Branch for his great achievement.

Congratulations to Ray and WelTec for a fine dining performance winning First in Class in eight of the events, earning themselves a total of 19 medals, two trophies, four gold medals, 11 silver medals and four bronze medals.
