What is Happening to Venue Expenses ?

Venue operators are increasingly asking the question “what is happening to venue expenses and can we expect to see an increase any day soon?”

The current position is that the Department of Internal Affairs have established a working party with the venue operators being represented by Hospitality Association board member Peter Norrie and myself. Also on the working party are representatives of the Charity Gaming Association and the Department of Internal Affairs. The working party have had a couple of meetings and are currently going through a data gathering exercise to look at what has changed since the formula was put in place last year. This is going to take some time. It is also worth noting that any dramatic change such as a commission based system is outside the terms of reference for the working party.

Meantime venue operators need to optimise the payments they receive from their society within the parameters of the formula and make the appropriate commercial decisions in terms of how they operate gaming machines in their venue.
