Consumers to pay the cost of extra holidays

Consumers can expect increases in prices for food, beverage and accommodation to kick-in over the next few weeks.

That’s the message from the Chief Executive of the Hospitality Association of New Zealand, Bruce Robertson, after factoring in the effects of the additional week’s annual leave and the lifting in the minimum wage.

Continued rising interest rates and other costs are also contributing to the need for hospitality operators to review their prices.

"Our members don’t enjoy putting up prices & but for many if they don’t, their businesses simply will not survive," says Mr Robertson

"We hoped that patrons will accept the increases, recognising that they too are getting some benefits, particularly in terms of increased leave.
