F&B column Hospitality Excellence The Hospitality Association’s Awards for Excellence programme has reached the final stages. The finalists have now all been announced. What an outstanding array of properties doing a fantastic job in lifting the standard across the industry! The judges have commented this year that judging has never been harder as the quality and depth of entries has been simply outstanding. The quality of investment in refurbishing and developing new properties, both in accommodation, bars and restaurants, has been breathtaking. The investment being made by both corporate and individual investors shows great faith in the industry. The other categories covering marketing, customer service, music and entertainment, sports bars, gaming, staff training, beef and lamb dishes, and excellent country hotels demonstrate that despite operating in a challenging environment the hospitality industry can and does perform at the cutting edge. It is very easy to become negative sometimes as we look at the trading environment. The entrants in this year’s awards show just how good the hospitality offering is, and that those who strive certainly thrive. Congratulations also to all the winners in the BarTender Bar Show Awards, yet another example of not only the excellence the hospitality industry delivers on a daily basis but also that ours is the fun industry. In the depth of a tough winter it is easy for us to focus on the negative and how hard it is. The HANZ Awards for Excellence and those of BarTender are a reminder that we are the fun industry and we do deliver a quality product. Bruce H Robertson |
