 How to make a Submission to a Select Committee

Anyone, whether an individual or an organisation, is entitled to make a submission on any bill.   Your submission should include the following information:

 

To        :           Clerk of the Committee

                        (Name of the Select Committee)

                        (Name of the Select Committee Office)

                         Parliament Buildings

                         Wellington

 

(No postage required.)

 

From :              (name, business and address)

                        Indicate whether you wish to appear before the Committee.  

                        (If so, include contact phone number.) 

Give names of any other people you want to appear with you before the Committee, either in support or to speak.   You should seek to be heard at a town near you. 

Give brief details of your business and interest in the bill. 

State your general position on the bill - whether you support or oppose the provisions covered by your submission, and your reasons. 

Your submission should be relevant, clear, concise and accurate. It does not have to be a lengthy submission.
