 INFORMATION SHEET

POINTS FOR INCLUSION IN SUBMISSIONS

-           Smoking in bars is about an adult product in an adult environment.

 -           Patrons have a choice as to whether to go into a bar or not.

 -           Staff have a choice as to whether they work in a bar or not.

 -            The science linking second-hand smoke and cancer is inconclusive and conflicting.

-           Australian bars are not smokefree, only areas where food is served.

 -           Banning smoking in Californian bars did hurt business until bar owners decided to ignore the ban or shift their business outside.

-           The economic research saying that there was no negative effect on business resulting from the Californian ban is flawed.

 -           Ventilation and filtration does make a difference.

 -           Many restaurants are already more than 50% smoke-free and many bars have smoke-free areas which currently they are not required to do.

-           Evolution and common sense rather than Government interference.

 -           Does NZ want legislation and rules directed by the extremists ?

 -           Clubs must have the same rules as bars and restaurants.

 -           Remove the smoke not the smokers.

 -           Smokers are voters.

 -           Vending machines should continue to be allowed in supervised and restricted areas.

 -           Ask to be heard in your local area on your submission.

-           Please ask that the submission be heard after the busy festive season.
