- Smoking in bars is about an adult product in an adult environment.
- Patrons have a choice as to whether to go into a bar or not.
- Staff have a choice as to whether they work in a bar or not.
- The science linking second-hand smoke and cancer is inconclusive and conflicting.
- Australian bars are not smokefree, only areas where food is served.
- Banning smoking in Californian bars did hurt business until bar owners decided to ignore the ban or shift their business outside.
- The economic research saying that there was no negative effect on business resulting from the Californian ban is flawed.
- Ventilation and filtration does make a difference.
- Many restaurants are already more than 50% smoke-free and many bars have smoke-free areas which currently they are not required to do.
- Evolution and common sense rather than Government interference.
- Does NZ want legislation and rules directed by the extremists ?
- Clubs must have the same rules as bars and restaurants.
- Remove the smoke not the smokers.
- Smokers are voters.
- Vending machines should continue to be allowed in supervised and restricted areas.
- Ask to be heard in your local area on your submission.
- Please ask that the submission be heard after the busy festive season.
